With over 24 years of medical experience treating patients with allergies, migraines, stress disorders, respiratory distress, digestive and women's health issues, Dr. Yu Zhu shares her holistic approach at First Health Associates in Arlington Heights, IL. She serves as head of the new Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) department.

Dr. Zhu's medical experience combined with extensive training in acupuncture and herbs provides patients with an integrated perspective in diagnosis and treatment. Utilizing a TCM holistic system, Dr. Zhu evaluates the body's physiology and works to restore system harmony naturally through acupuncture, herbal remedies, therapeutic massage, therapeutic manipulation and energy work. She works to enhance the immune system to prevent illness. Believing that “the body knows best”, she uses the body to heal itself.

For over 2000 years, TCM has been used to diagnose and treat illnesses based on an individual's unique symptom origin. A whole body system of care is the center of Dr. Zhu's practice. When a patient exhibits a symptom, she does not dispense treatment that simply masks it. Instead, she identifies and treats the cause of the symptom, thus rebalancing the body to prevent future occurrences.

Dr. Zhu received her M.D. from Gansu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where for thirteen years she taught and served as Director of the Acupuncture Technique and Research Unit. She completed post-doctorate work at Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology.

She went on to teach TCM and acupuncture at Singman Medical Center in Stockholm, Sweden. Later, Dr. Zhu established the TCM unit at the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem and was a member of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Ben-Gurion University in Beersheba, Israel. In 2003 while continuing her private practice, she served as chair of the TCM department at the Atlantic University of Chinese Medicine in Ashville, North Carolina.

In addition to her teaching and clinical experience, Dr. Zhu has written 18 academic papers and co-authored 5 books on TCM and has taken graduate courses in English literature and educational psychology.

Dr. Zhu and her husband reside in Oakbrook, IL. The couple have one daughter, who attends Cornell University School of Engineering.
