Week 7 Updates

“What a group!” Dr. J exclaimed after the dust settled at the end of week 7.  “We’ve never had a group that was this consistent.”

Typical programs evolve into 3 groups.  It’s usually evenly distributed between a group that tries for 110% and we have to slow them down a bit, a group that’s puttering at 60% and we have to kick start them, and a group at about 90% who puts up solid numbers week in and week out.  The nice thing about this group is that they are just 1 solid unit.  Everyone in the program is doing their best, but at the same time making sure not to overdo it and burn out.

“In this group it seems that everyone is right at that 90-95% effort level—exactly where we want them!” Dr. J notes. “We want people getting everything they can out of this 12 weeks, but at the same time, if they go all-out-all-the-time, that’s not a lifestyle they can maintain after the program ends.  AND THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT—what happens after the program ends?  If we can get people working really hard, but staying within the means of a normal lifestyle while they lose the weight, that is far more sustainable.”

The Game

Now we’re getting down to the tough spot.  With only 8 people remaining, a double promotion often nabs someone off track 1 despite very good numbers.  This week, Julie B and Peggy were promoted to the overall challenge.  They are clearly in our 90-95% effort level as they are both closing in on 7% so it’s sad to see them move to track 2…. But we could see one of them back up on track 1 when we reinstate a track 2 player in week 9.

The Workouts

Courtney and Kellie pulled another tag team Saturday workout this week and broke out their card workout.  “It was actually really fun,” one participant noted.  “We drew cards and pulled random exercises….none of which were easy I might add… but it was interesting, fun, and I burned over 500 calories!”

The Board

Seeing people work hard is one thing, but we want results too.  This group is down 241 pounds already and is closing in on 7% of their initial weight!  If you think the weights look good, you should see the measurements!  A great example is Tori, who by the scale has lost 2%, but she has lost several inches around the waist and her body composition has changed tremendously.  Again, can’t emphasize enough about how proud we are of the whole group.  But that doesn’t mean we’re going to take it easy on you!  We have 5 more weeks to go, and we plan to finish even stronger than where we started.
