New Group Dives in with a Splash!
We welcomed 14 new participants into the February 2010 challenge and were a bit concerned given that many of them came in just under the registration deadline and had to rush to get in the preliminary screenings and scheduling. However—with 43 pounds of weight lost in just the first week it looks like they’re coming along quite nicely.
Nutrition Notes: Most of the contestants met with Tom this week for their initial nutrition consultation where he outlined their individual nutrition goals and worked with them to develop menu planning specific to their objectives and preferences.
Training Notes: Our trainers spent no time unveiling their theme for the February group—VARIETY. “We always focus on mixing things up as much as possible, but in our team meetings we decided to take it to a whole new level with this group.” Dr. Nick said. With all 5 trainers involved in this program, it’s no doubt guaranteed to get interesting. Dr. Joe led Going for Gold through a gauntlet of plyometrics, cardio, and strength moves on Tuesday night while Tom focused on circuit intervals with It Starts With Us on Wednesday. We called in a guest group exercise specialist (Kristin) on Saturday for a more conventional group exercise workout to finish of the week. Individual training sessions mostly compiled of circuit training as the trainers tried to get a feel for each of their contestant’s preferences and capabilities.
Bottom Line: Phil jumped out to a commanding lead with an 8.8# week 1 but Kathy, Barb, Darlene, Art, Diane, and Maria all posted 3# or more as well. The elimination was a bit shocking as Cheryl was promoted to the overall challenge despite a 1.4# weight loss. “That was a bit of a shock” Tom said after the weigh in. “Typically over 1# a week keeps people safe for the first 4-5 weeks of the program before we see the stakes go up to 2# or more. Cheryl is extremely focused and determined though so she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with on track 2.”
Apparently the group is meshing well because our trainers can’t stop talking about how many interesting and dynamic personalities have joined together for this challenge. It’s sure to be a fun ride and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for week two.
Keep up the good work!
