Barb
She wants to improve her health, fitness, appearance, confidence, and not feel squished on an airplane.  She’ll do well because she’s made the decision that she’s “not going to live like this any longer!”  She’s afraid that she might have a tough time with the exercise, but feels that 2010 is going to be her year for change and will finally be able to get control of food and exercise.

Phil
As a 55 year old Senior Director of Sales his goal is to lose weight and prevent the health concerns that correlate with obesity.  He may have difficulty with staying focused on eating healthy meals, but the accountability and challenge of the competition are bound to keep him on task.  He has 3 sons and 2 grandsons rooting him on… and another grandson due in a month!

Pat

She’s a 54 year old Consultant looking to get in better shape for her upcoming 25th wedding anniversary than she was for her 10th.  For her winning the competition will be reaching her personal goal.  Frequent travel for her job may be a hurdle to overcome, but she is ready to kick it in gear and do her best.  When she’s not working—or working out—she’ll be participating in her other hobby:  Curling.

Cliff

A 57 year old Project Manager who from the moment we met him we could tell he means business.  He’s here to get in peak physical shape, reduce medications, and get back into competitive sporting activities.  Has made excuses not to get back into the gym and diets have failed him—so now it’s time for a challenge.  Recently had rotator cuff surgery but has completed physical therapy and is ready to go!

She starts her day at 5am and doesn’t return home until 6pm… but while being a busy 53 year old Systems Analysis Project Manager is highly demanding, the demands aren’t physical and have led to a sedentary lifestyle.  Her goal is to increase core strength while decreasing her cholesterol and blood pressure.  Time, cookies, and demanding schedules will be potential barriers, but her long term health goals outweigh the short term hurdles that lie ahead.  Watch out for her though—she’s very “crafty” (scrap books, knitting, reading, etc :-)

Michelle

She’s a full time student looking to get thinner, healthier, and more confident.  She says it’s going to feel great to lose the weight, but winning the challenge is going to be a nice bonus J  Her personal challenges will be overcoming impulse eating and getting rolling with the workouts.  At 21 she’s our youngest competitor in the February 2010 program.

Her motivation for joining the challenge is to live longer than her parents did and be able to break out the clothes in her closet that have been waiting for her.  As a 59 year old Claims Examiner she will have a tough time with food preparation due to her long work hours but has a very positive mindset and is already committed to change.

She’s interested in achieving an optimal weight, but more interested in getting healthy and getting strong enough to prevent injury and live a strong active life.  She might have a tough time with the workouts, but she’s motivated to do everything she can to reach her goals!  She has been in a pattern of yo-yo weights for a while now and is ready to break the cycle.

He’s a 52 year old Technical Writer for a software company who keeps telling people he’s going to live to be 100.  He knows that he needs to lose weight and get healthier to make that be a reality, but also notes that looking and feeling better will have numerous additional social and physical benefits as well.  He guarantees victory in the program—because for him winning means that he tried his best and showed consistent progress throughout the program.  One thing we should mention—he’s a retired Army Officer with over 34 years of service!
