Largest Loser: Week 1 Updates
“She’s crazy… but man did I ever get a good workout” Many of team “Big to Buff” reported this week.
“Dr. Nick’s a great trainer, but my whole body hurts” Was the report from team “Triple Threat.”
“I like Tom more when he’s in the clinic talking about nutrition than when he’s in the gym making us do pushups” was the common experience from team “Fat to P.H.A.T. (pretty hot and tempting)”
Many of our participants had lots of nice things to say about their trainers (other than how much their quads hurt), but in his presentation Tom made one thing very clear. He politely thanked them for the kind words but wanted to emphasize that the true victory had nothing to do with their trainers but their own personal fortitude and dedication to start this program off with a bang.
AND THEY DID JUST THAT!
Results:
Triple Threat led the way with a 2.2% weight loss, followed closely by Big to Buff’s 1.8% and Fat to Phat’s 1.6%. The big individual losses this week kept piling up, and included Peggy (9#), John (8#), Carol (7#), Mary (7#), Tricia (7#), Dianne (6#)… and the numbers continued for a total of 86 pounds in 1 week!
After the weigh in Courtney said “We were anticipating pretty solid numbers in our trainer meetings this week but we didn’t expect 86 pounds!”
Training Report:
By the end of just one week, Largest Loser Participants have swung kettle bells, thrown medicine balls, lifted dumbbells, pulled bands, and even played basketball! They are logging their food intake and cardio, trying new recipes, and giving each other tips along the way.
After just 1 week, “I can’t control my diet, I can’t get motivated to exercise” is changing. We are starting to hear “I CAN!”
As trainers, Nick, Courtney, and Tom are very impressed with the effort from all three teams in week 1, but at the same time have no intentions of easing up. Dr. Nick summed it up the best by saying “We’re not looking for average results. ‘just OK’ isn’t going to cut it. We want to see a 12 week transformation that sets the stage for a healthy next 12 years.”
Quotables:
“My legs are sore but I know it’s going to get easier,” Carol said after the workout. “I’m having trouble taking the stairs instead of the elevator this week… but I’m sticking to it” we heard from Roy. We heard John affirming, “3 more? Really? OK, OK! I can do 3 more!” More importantly, in the group session, we heard team members pushing one another and telling others “you can do it! Keep up the good work! We’re in this thing together!”
