Through our Exercise Therapy Department we offer individually designed exercise programs for anyone from the most serious competitive athlete to recreational golfers and stay-at-home moms. Getting the most out of your fitness regime requires more than just a will to work hard—it requires an understanding of the human body and how it responds to exercise. An experienced trainer with the proper educational back ground and credentials can assure lasting benefits without wasting time, energy and money.
Enhance Health
Properly guided exercise can lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes, help you sleep better, improve your appearance, stamina and even enhance your outlook on life. Teaching people how to improve their lives by adopting a Wellness Attitude is an integral part of our Living A Healthy Lifestyle Program. At First Health we've made a commitment to hiring only the best and brightest physicians and therapists. Our trainers and therapists are all college educated and each possess a minimum of a Masters Degree relating to human physiology and kinesiology.
Improve Endurance
Achieving optimum performance in any athletic endeavor requires dedication and commitment but equally as important it’s knowing how to train. Every endeavor requires different strengths. The endurance athlete must teach his body how to properly store and use energy along with demanding respiratory and cardiac output requirements. Think about the first time you ran around the block and then think about running a 50 mile ultra marathon. Proper training can get you to the finish line.
Build Strength
What about strength athletes? A football player doesn’t need the endurance to last for 50 miles of running but does need quick bursts at exceptional strength levels. This type athlete requires a totally different training approach. Depending on the players position he may need strengthening of the lower extremities to help push opponents while blocking or maybe grip and arm strength for tackling. A tennis player or golfer will require completely different training programs. Today’s exercise specialists are trained to know what type of strength or endurance training is appropriate for specific athletic needs.
Overall Fitness
But for most of us it’s not about competitive athletics at all. The fact is, most of us are not highly trained (or paid) athletes, and only a few care about participative sporting endeavors. More importantly each of us can improve the quality of our lives and increase our longevity by a properly designed and implemented conditioning program.
What is “Prehab?”
In our physical medicine departments, we help our patients rehabilitate form injury and illness. In our Exercise Therapy and Wellness Departments we prefer to use the word PREHAB. If you are a smoker, why wait until you have COPD to see if it can be rehabbed? If you are short of breath or get dizzy upon bending or arising, why wait to have a full blown heart attack to rehab? If your cholesterol is out of range, why wait to have a stroke or coronary artery disease to go to rehab? No matter what your age, you can vastly improve your health and overall quality of your life. Our physicians are trained to evaluate and guide you through a personalized, custom designed PREHAB program. Our Living A Healthy Lifestyle Prehab Program is all about taking action before serious illness or injury arises. It’s been said the best medicine is early detection and intervention, First Health’s Exercise Therapy Department is a leader in Wellness Medicine.
