Meet January 2010 Participants
Dianne
She has joined us because she’s starting to find that she’s not able to do the activities she enjoys. Her job has been taking care of her family for some time now… but now it’s time to take care of herself. Her challenges are going to be daytime snacking and a Diet Coke addiction, but she’s says it best by stating “I’m committed to doing well and I’ll give my absolute best every day.”
Peggy
A graphic designer with a heavy workload and long commute, she’s ready to kick it in gear and kick some butt! Her main motivation is improving her health and getting stronger along the way, but watch out because she’ll be a force to be reckoned with on the scale as well. Her primary fear going into the challenge is that her trainer is going to make her run, but she’s also determined to do what it takes to hit her goal.
John
As a 53 year old Bond Broker, this guy means business! But he keeps things balanced with a good sense of humor. The first thing he said to the group was “My doctor says I’m the healthiest fat guy he knows… and I’m tired of carrying that title.” He’s not here to improve his already good blood pressure or cholesterol, he’s here to lose weight! His ultimate motivation is to add some years to his life and add some life to his years for the others in life that need him.
Stephanie
As a 39 year old Senior Rewards Consultant, she’s highly motivated to get back to a normal weight before she’s 40. “I realize that it will only get more difficult to lose and maintain weight loss as I get older. THE TIME IS NOW!” The tough part for her will be meal planning and monitoring calories, but she’s focused and determined to lose weight in a healthy way.
Phil
In his professional life he’s a Procurement Manager, but for the next 12 weeks he’s a Largest Loser contestant. He’s here to lose weight and keep it off and is highly motivated for his short and long term health. As a side challenge, he’s also trying to keep pace with his wife who is on her own weight loss journey with her sister.
Mary
At 50 years old, she wants to be a good role model for her family—especially her 6 year old granddaughter. She feels that the holidays might be a tough time, but notes that she can be very, very determined. Will she win the challenge? “I believe if I act as though I am a winner, I will be.”
Tricia
She joined the program because she loves being around people, enjoys working, and wants to shape up and learn more about nutrition and exercise. She’s going to be a tough competitor because she loves a good challenge and there’s really nothing that can get in the way of her goal.
Francesca
As a school administrator and activity director, she joins us because she keeps gaining weight and wants to get a handle on it. More importantly, she’s doing this to improve her health for her family and for herself. She’ll have to battle stress and a mild distaste for exercise, but her readiness for change and strong support staff make her a potential threat for the LL crown!
Roy
As 66 year old Project Manager, he does have an interest in weight loss, but his primary goal is to get in shape for a Special Olympics golf tournament this summer. The tournament features 4 full rounds of golf in 4 days and he’s hoping that being stronger, improving cardiovascular fitness, and being 20 pounds lighter will be keys to his success.
Kathy
As a 52 year old office manager, she has spent most of her life taking care of others. However, now is the perfect time in her life to make a change. She is very determined to incorporate all aspects of achieving a healthy lifestyle. She may have a difficulty with stress eating, but with a supportive husband of 30 years, and friendly golden retriever sidekick Bella at her side, anything is possible.
Ted
He’s a 49 year old Independent Consultant who is looking for some assistance in putting together a program of exercise and diet to lose weight. He anticipates that the hardest thing to do will be getting started with a regular exercise program but feels that working as a team and competing in the competition will help him stay focused.
Erin
She’s a college student and our youngest challenger and predicts that the hardest thing about the program is going to be the exercise… and getting up super early on Saturday mornings to do it! Her main goal is weight loss and she feels she has an advantage because she has more time to work out than some of the others in the program.
Dan
He’s a busy operations manager and successful Largest Loser graduate, but he joins us again with a goal to continue losing weight and getting in shape. He’s focused on getting healthy and would like to do his first 10k this Spring. He will have a tough time with stress from work, but he’s looking forward to incorporating strategies from the Fall program and developing more healthy habits this time around.
Becky
As a 25 year old event planner, she has battled some tough situations that has led her to this point, but she’s ready to let go of the past and start living the rest of her life! She’s excited to be competing as part of the challenge and feels that with the support of her friends and family she is going to do extremely well.
Wendy
She’s a 57 year old legal secretary who joined the program to gain control of her health. Why is she going to give it her all? Because “I’m committed to someday meeting my grandchildren.” She may have a tough time with salty snacks and says she will need to focus on keeping herself busy during time off from work to stay focused for the program.
Christine
She’s here to take control of her health. As a full time mother, she wants to be a great example that change and success are possible. She feels that food restrictions will be tough and that she’s out of shape so exercise will be difficult as well. However, she also says that “we can do this together and support each other to be healthy for life.”
Carol
As a part time care giver and home maker, she’s here for her life. Her goal isn’t just to lose a few pounds, she wants life-long weight management and plans on not only living to 100, achieving quality of life as well. Her concerns are portion control and managing stress, but her history as a life-long dieter has her motivated to progress to a more effective and efficient approach.
She used to run 8 marathons per year, but when being a busy business owner turned into 16-18 hour days regular exercise took a back seat and eating on the run became a necessity. Well now it’s time to turn back time… and the scale.
She’s dieted, exercised, joined group programs like weight watchers, and even works with a Dietitian. What’s different now? It’s time to crank it up a notch and combine it all in one place. Can she hang with the guys on 3 G’s or are they going to be trying to keep up with her?
Henry
He did really well in the pilot program but has been caught up with work and life since August and needs to push the envelope again. Now he’s back for another run with plans to hit his goal weight in stride and never look back.
Jason
He has the education, motivation, and a destination—33 more pounds! He tied for top poundage lost in the pilot program and is back for round 2. The best part? You can follow along on his journey at his blog which can be found at
