We are pleased to welcome Sung Choi to our team of elite Traditional Chinese Medical Specialists. Sung is a nationally certified Diplomate in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. His background in Eastern Philosophy and health care make him an ideal candidate to help his patients regain lost health through a variety of mind/body techniques.
Sung was born in Seoul, South Korea where he received his Bachelors Degree in Eastern Philosophy from the Soong-Sil University. Continuing his studies in body, mind and Eastern health systems he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. He completed his Masters Degree thesis on the use of Oriental Medicine in the care of asthmatic patients and was a research acupuncturist for the Obesity Research Study funded by the National Institute of Health.
As a seasoned practitioner Sung incorporates general nutrition, herbal remedies, therapeutic massage and acupuncture in his treatment regimes. In addition, he is a practitioner dedicated to helping his patients improve the mind/body connection through Korean Qi Gong, Chinese Tai Qi and Eastern Meditation.
His philosophy of health is clear. “Enhancing the mind/body connection is an essential part of the Eastern Philosophy of healing. While western medicine focuses on relieving symptoms, Traditional Chinese Medicine is concerned with guiding the patient through the process of healing themselves and energizing the body's own natural recovery systems. We begin with a two-step process of restoring your body's normal functions (called balancing a patient's chi) and guiding you through various meditation techniques to boost the healing process. Our job as health care providers in Eastern Medicine is to give our patients the guidance and tools to recover naturally”.
In addition to using conventional Chinese Medicine systems of evaluation and treatment he adds Fuku Shin (a Japanese form of diagnosis and treatment of abdominal, pelvis and cardiac distress), Korean Qi Gong, Tai Qi and the art and philosophy of meditation to the department. Sung immigrated to the United States in 1987. Sung and his wife, Sun reside in Des Plaines. Prior to joining the Chinese Medicine Department at First Health Associates Sung practiced as a solo practitioner in Arlington Heights.
