Dr Jason Gruss is the director of First Health's department of physical medicine. A 2003 graduate of Chicago Medical School, Dr Jason did his internship at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where he was awarded Resident of the Year in 2004. With his interest in the proper function of the human frame and nervous system he chose Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) as his specialty. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital in Chicago where he became chief resident in 2006.
The specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is also know as Physiatry (pronounced fizz-I-ah-tree). Today's PM&R doctors specialize in the management of disorders that alter the function and performance of a patient. PM&R doctors are well versed in both neurology and orthopedics. Common conditions treated by physiatrist include amputation, spinal cord injuries, sports injuries, stroke musculoskeletal injuries such as spine and joint pain, industrial and auto injuries, fibromyalgia, chronic pain management and traumatic brain injury. There are approximately only 7500 board certified PM&R doctors practicing in the U.S.
In addition to seeing patients, Dr Jason will be supervising First Health's Physical Therapy Department and working closely with our alternative medicine providers and nutritionists. He will be providing services to our patients:
Headache Medicine
Spine and joint care
Sport injury care
Work and auto injury care
Chronic pain syndrome management
Fibromyalgia care
Dr Jason, his wife, Kristen and two children, Alyson and Katherine reside in Chicago. He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, National Headache Foundation, American Headache Society, Academy of Academic Physiatrists and the American College of Sports Medicine.
