Hi everyone - Like many, I too have frustrations when facing the scale. We beat ourselves up way too much. It's such a mind game isnt it? You are all doing so great and working really hard. We didnt gain the weight over night so releasing it will take time. You're all winners.....and really nice people too :-) There are positive thought provoking, amazing writings by a man named Ralph Marston I'd like to share with you starting with: Put discouragement behind you Just as quickly and easily as you can become discouraged, you can let go of that discouragement. The only power that discouragement has, is the power you give it. Though the challenges are great, you are greater. For you can act and learn and adapt, and act again with even more effectiveness. If you feel yourself sinking into the false comfort of discouragement, choose instead to stand up. Boldly take a few steps forward, lovingly recall your deepest purposes and your most treasured dreams, and put that discouragement behind you. Though there is always injustice in the world, there is always even more opportunity to make a positive difference. Though the challenges keep appearing, in each challenge is the chance to create new positive value. You can decide how your life will be. And you have the power to make it so. This is your moment to pick your head up, put a smile on your face, and with a quickness and determination in your step, move forward. Look toward your best possibilities, for you are here now to achieve great things. -- Ralph Marston Have a great day everyone and remember - Do your best and forget the rest

Possibility of success - You can make your life a triumph in spite of every adversity. Or you could make your life a mess in spite of every advantage. Success does not depend on where you start. If it did, no one would have ever been successful. Success comes from what you choose to do with whatever you have. It is fully available to anyone who decides to make the effort and the commitment. Whatever the day holds, it also holds the possibility of success and achievement. Whatever the situation may be, there is a way to create real value from it. Choose to see the positive possibilities, and you will. Choose to follow those possibilities, and success takes root. The opportunity for success is always yours, and so is the responsibility. Decide to do what it takes, and create the success that is your own special destiny. -- Ralph Marston

I know that I pretty much threw down the gauntlet and challenged everybody to lose more than I am going to this week. As an update - yesterday I checked my weight after my workout with Tom and weighed 296.25. I'm almost at the goal for the week. I plan on getting a big workout in today and another one on Friday. I joked to Tom that once I get my weight for the week I am not eating or drinking ANYTHING until the official weigh-in! Just kidding on that one, but I really want everybody to push themselves today and tomorrow!

Thanks Katrina - I'm glad you like the writings. Here's another one: Inner voice --- Sure, the task is difficult, the road is long, and the challenges are great. And yet, somewhere deep inside, you know you can do it. Your outer thoughts and words may complain loudly about the trouble, frustration and annoyance. Yet your innermost thoughts know that what is best is to move ahead with it, despite all the trouble. Listen to that inner voice, the one telling you that yes, you can. Listen to that inner voice, the one reminding you that yes, you must. That inner voice can give you valuable perspective, for it is not distracted or dismayed by the events of the moment. Certainly it's useful to pay attention to the moment, and it's also important to keep the big picture in mind. And when you measure the challenges of this moment against the big picture of your life, you'll know that you can handle those challenges. When you view the opportunities of this moment within the big picture, you'll know that your efforts will be richly rewarded. Listen to that inner voice, the one that's saying yes to life. -- Ralph Marston

Here's another ---- Look ahead Look ahead, toward where you're going, and you'll be better able to deal with where you are. Stay focused on the goal at the end of the road, and you'll find a way to move steadily down that road. Keep looking ahead, and even the difficult steps will seem lighter. Keep your ultimate purpose in mind, and the burdens become that much more bearable. Look ahead, and the challenges will make you stronger. Look ahead, and your dreams will pull you toward them. When you're looking ahead, the distractions won't be nearly so distracting. Your efforts will gain the immense power of focus when you keep your eyes on where you're headed. Your time, your energy, your resources will get used no matter where you're looking. When you look ahead, you'll get the highest return for that investment. Look ahead, toward the place you most want to be. The more you look, the closer you'll be.

Hey, workouts have been great this week from both teams! Keep up the good work and remember--if you have any bumps or bruises make sure to ice, stretch, and get in to see one of the chiropractors or Dr. Gruss. Any time you drastically change your workout routine it is a stress on the body. That's actually a really good thing, but we want to make sure you don't "push through the pain" when you should back off and do your cardio in the pool for a couple of days. "When in question, get an evaluation" is the motto I use in my own training regimen.

Do You Have the Right Attitude? written by Jillian Michaels: Do you have what it takes to reach your weight-loss goals? If you think it's all about diet and exercise, you're wrong. It sounds crazy, I know. Exercise and a proper diet are crucial to all weight-loss and fitness programs. But to reach any long-term goal — especially one that requires a major lifestyle change — you need to improve your attitude too. You can have all the external support in the world, but if your self-esteem is in the toilet, you'll never have long-term success. Having the right attitude is so important because thought is behavior. The power of the mind is total — the way you think about yourself manifests as your reality. We all know how easily negative thoughts can lead to lack of confidence, hopelessness, and depression. You've heard about self-fulfilling prophecy, right? Well, if you tell yourself that you'll always be fat or you'll never find happiness, chances are you'll end up fat and unhappy. Hey, it makes sense. Okay then, let's turn that scenario around. Tell yourself that you can get fit and you will be happy. It's that simple. You can master your own fate with positive thinking!

Solid recovery --- Each setback provides an opportunity to recover. And each time you recover, you grow stronger. The route to your goal is not a straight line. There will be many times along the way when you find yourself off course. When that happens, it can seem like your destination is unreachable. Doubt, fear and apathy will take hold if you let them. The key is not to let them. For as hopeless as the situation may feel, there are actions you can take that will enable you to quickly get back on track. Much of the substance of achievement is in becoming skilled at making a quick and solid recovery. Each setback gives you the chance to practice and strengthen and refine that valuable skill. Know that whatever has slowed you down can provide you with a way to move more effectively forward. Quickly get back up, and feel the new strength you've gained. ---- Ralph Marston

Say the right stuff: "You're fat"/"Don't bother exercising today - it won't make a bit of difference"/"No wonder your fat, you have no self control" Would you ever say these things to your best friend? your spouse? child or co-worker? NO! So why is it ok to say such hurtful things to yourself? It's not ok! Everything goes back to self. A vital part of changing your attitude is changing your self talk - your internal monologue, the chattering conversation you have with yourself all day long whether you are aware of it or not. It's this kind of useless negativity that can hold you back, keeping you from being the best that you can be. And now is the time to turn it around once and for all. Your self-talk can make the difference between self-assurance and self-doubt, happiness and despair, success and failure. I can promise you that if you start making your self-talk more positive and affirming and less self-deprecating, your whole life will change for the better.

Suffered a Setback? Here's How to Get Back on the Wagon (written by Jillian Michaels) ----- It happens — you miss a few workouts and you feel like you've fallen off the weight-loss wagon. It's tempting to mentally slap yourself around, right? (Or head for the fridge.) Before you start, I want to remind you of something: Being hard on yourself is the Old You. The New You knows how to deal with setbacks and get back on the wagon. And after all, there are no mistakes, just learning experiences. Weight loss is a process — it takes time. You will encounter small failures — everyone does — but every pound you gain can be lost. And if you miss a workout, it's not the end of the world! Get to the gym the next day and continue to focus on your short-term goals. Just because you made bad choices today doesn't mean you can't start over tomorrow. New day? New beginning. And don't you forget it!

BELIEVE IT --- You will accomplish whatever you sincerely believe you will accomplish. And you can believe whatever you choose to believe. When you truly believe you can, then you can. For your actions in each moment are vigorously guided by the things you believe about yourself. Your beliefs influence you even when you're not thinking about them. That gives them a constant and enormous power to affect your reality. The things that you believe to be out of your reach will indeed be out of your reach as long as your beliefs stay the same. You can, however, change your beliefs to include whatever possibilities you dare to imagine. Visualize yourself reaching the goal, and your belief begins to grow. Take solid and consistent steps in the direction of that goal, and your belief becomes more firmly entrenched with each action. Allow yourself, with everything you are, to fully believe in whatever you seek to do. And it will surely be.

Janet said:

Destined to achieve --- Get completely clear about your objective. If all you have is a vague idea, then work on fleshing it out so it becomes detailed and specific. Act now. Opportunities do not wait for conditions to be perfect. Persist in your efforts. Make all of your work count for something by seeing it through to the finish. Be thankful for the challenges and enjoy working through them. For they are where the real value is created. Connect your goal to a meaningful purpose. When you're clear about why, you'll surely be able to take care of how. Every frustration, every dissatisfaction you feel is really an urge to achieve. Follow those urges all the way through, and make the positive difference that is your destiny. ---- Ralph Marston

Where your mind is --- What do you think about your current situation? What do you think about the possibilities that are available to you at this moment? What you think has a direct and undeniable connection to what you do. So it pays to keep your mind focused on the highest and the best. Where your mind is right now is where your life will soon be. The thousands of thoughts that you think each day provide the stage upon which you perform. The outer performance is driven by the inner thoughts. Thoughts of confidence, effectiveness, strength and positive achievement will lead to truly great performances. Consider all the things you say to yourself as every day goes along. Each one is an opportunity for you to direct your mind in precisely the way you choose. Use all your thoughts, the little ones, the big ones, and all the rest, to put your mind in a positive, empowering place. Enjoy the journey as your great thoughts lead you surely and steadily to greatness. ---- Ralph Marston

Stop and remember --- When you are tempted to stray off track, stop and take a moment to consider where you're going. Remember why you originally began traveling the path you're on. When the many distractions of life put you in danger of losing focus, stop and give yourself an opportunity to regain clarity. Remember the depth of passion with which you first started your journey. When it seems that nothing is going your way, stop and make some time to adjust your perspective. Recall how far you've already come, and remind yourself that positive actions will indeed have positive, valuable results. When you find that you've grown weary, stop and give yourself a real, refreshing, well-deserved break. Then you can jump back into the effort with a renewed vigor and sense of purpose. When you feel that you've lost faith in the goodness of life, stop and look around you. Offer your genuine help to someone in need, and you'll find that your heart is soon being healed. When you find yourself too caught up in the frustrations that surround you, stop and remember the treasures you value most deeply. And you'll reconnect to the incredible abundance that is your life. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Now you must ---- Stop telling yourself why you cannot do it and start reminding yourself why you must. When you have a strong enough reason why, you'll get it done. It can be all too easy to come up with excuses. And it can be all too easy to let those excuses stop you in your tracks. Yet you can also very easily let go of those excuses. Though they may sound impressive, they are no longer valid for you. Because as of now, you have chosen to move forward. As of this moment, you have reconnected with your purpose and you're clear about why you must. Effort, as difficult as it may be, is a joy when there's a good, solid, meaningful reason behind it. On this very day, you can experience that joy. Get up, get going, and thoroughly enjoy the process of achievement. Remember why you must, and get it done. ---- Ralph Marston

Well on your way ---- Keep your eyes on the goal and your feet on the path. Let the long-term consequences of your efforts encourage you forward as you give your focus to the task at hand. Any achievement is within your reach because the next step is always accessible to you. You can take that step any time you decide to do so. And when you do, the step after that is suddenly there for you to choose. By putting one foot in front of the other, the once-distant goal grows closer and closer. Yes, it will take sustained effort and commitment. And yes, you are fully capable of doing whatever it takes. Your dreams are longing for you to bring them to life. And the process of doing so will indeed bring you more fully to life. You can do it, in this very moment, and in the next, and in the next. Set your sights high and keep moving, for you're already well on your way. --- Ralph Marston

Precious freedom ---- Freedom is what makes the very best possibilities possible. It is truly a treasure that nothing else can replace. Freedom does not guarantee any specific result, and that is in fact its beauty. Instead, freedom gives you the priceless opportunity to create your own results. Freedom taps into the awesome power of each unique individual. Freedom is the fertile ground from which magnificent achievements spring forth with unceasing vigor. The demands of freedom are great. To live with freedom requires effort and discipline, commitment and sacrifice. Yet the rewards of freedom are even greater. For in freedom you truly become the best you can be. Resolve today, and every day, to make the most of the precious freedom that is yours. --- Ralph Marston

Take the initiative --- Don't sit around waiting for enough energy to get going. Get yourself moving and you'll create the energy necessary to keep you in motion. Do you just not feel like doing anything? That's the time when you can make the biggest positive difference for yourself by going ahead and taking action anyway. In ways small and large, your world right now is filled with opportunities to make a difference. Take the initiative. The only thing you need to take the first step is your decision to do it. Take that first step and put momentum solidly on your side. If you think you can't do it, stop thinking and start doing. The smallest positive action can begin to erase even the biggest doubt. This is a day that you can fill with valuable and purposeful accomplishment. Take the initiative, and make something of it right now. -- Ralph Marston

Over the mountain of challenge ---- When you look at a tall mountain from a distance, it looms very large indeed. It can be difficult to imagine how you could ever climb over it. Yet when you go right up to the foot of the mountain, you're likely to find a trail leading up the side. It then becomes obvious that by taking one step after another, you can indeed make your way over that mountain. Any challenge can be viewed in much the same way. When it is a distant concept, the challenge can seem insurmountable. Yet when you get to the point where you're ready to take the first step, that challenge becomes less intimidating. Once you start working your way through, step by step, you begin to know that you will indeed make it to the other side. Is there a challenge you've been avoiding because it seems too large and intimidating? Go ahead, step right up to that challenge, and you'll quickly see that it's not really as difficult as you had imagined. Working through challenges can add significant value to your world and can greatly improve the quality of your life. Go ahead, dive right in, and you'll know without a doubt that you can do it. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

As long as it takes ---- What if you knew that you could reach your goal by taking just one more step? Would you take that step? At some point in the process of achievement, the final hurdle is reached. What a shame it would be to stop just short of that one last obstacle. Achievement does not require extraordinary ability. Achievement comes from ordinary abilities applied with extraordinary persistence. You already know you can do what it takes. To reach any goal, simply do what it takes for as long as it takes. It's really not that difficult to take just one step, to do just a single task, to make one bit of progress. And if you can do it once, you can do it again, and again, and again without much problem. Keep the faith and keep up the effort. Your persistence will get you there. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Why ---- The way to know how is to know why. The way to find enough motivation, inspiration, commitment and strength is to know why. Why do you seek what you seek? Why do you desire to reach the goals you have set? There is a purpose within you that will push you to overcome every obstacle. When you truly feel that your efforts are connected to that purpose, those efforts will surely bring the desired results. It's easy to imitate the dreams and aspirations of those around you, and to think you want what they want. But remember that you have your very own, unique dreams, and those are the dreams to follow. Instead of frustration, you can experience joy. Instead of disappointment, you can know fulfillment. It all comes from truly knowing why. Allow yourself to understand why, and whatever you can imagine will be yours to create. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Keep moving forward ---- Raise yourself up just a little bit. Then see how very good it feels. Make a small positive change for the better. And you'll know without a doubt that you can successfully make even greater, more profound changes. Lift the spirits of someone close to you. Experience how it feels to truly change the world. Make a modest amount of progress. You'll be learning how to make much, much more. Take one step toward your goal. And suddenly you're positioned to take the next step. The smallest positive action can overcome the biggest negative doubt. Even if it's just a little bit, there's always a way to keep moving forward. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Feeling frustration --- What does it feel like when you are ready to do whatever it takes to succeed? It feels exactly like frustration, because that's what it is. Whenever you feel frustration, you are primed to make a positive difference in the world. You are highly motivated to create new and meaningful value. Don't let your frustrations go to waste by allowing them to get you down. Choose instead to put your frustrations to work. Listen carefully and gratefully to what your frustration is telling you. Discover and begin to manifest the improvements that your frustration is begging you to make. By understanding what frustrates you, you'll better understand what fulfills you. When you feel strongly about what's wrong, you're already on your way toward making it right. Be aware of your frustrations and pay attention to their messages. You'll find powerful positive purpose in them all. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

See yourself --- The way you see yourself becomes the way you make yourself. How do you see yourself? If you see yourself as always struggling, you will always struggle. If you see yourself as never getting ahead, you will not get ahead. Your view of yourself is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Fortunately, you can make that view whatever you wish. Choose to truly see yourself as effective, creative, patient, disciplined, enthusiastic and abundantly prosperous. See yourself as loving, caring, ever thankful and positive. Imagine yourself in rich detail to be the kind of person who easily and naturally achieves those very special dreams you treasure most. See yourself living life at its best and most fulfilling. Each time you think of yourself, see yourself as the best you can imagine. And the reality of your life will be true to your most sincere self-image. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

What you want to feel --- How exactly would you like to feel right now? Give yourself permission to go ahead and feel that way. It may seem that you need a certain situation or possession or person in your life before you can feel the way you wish to feel. Yet the truth is that you can feel whatever you choose to feel at any time, in any place. You already know how to feel happy, or thankful, or loved, or inspired. So go ahead and let yourself feel the way you wish to feel, right here, right now. It's great when others offer encouragement to you, but you can also feel encouraged all by yourself. It is wonderful when someone expresses love to you, yet you can also feel the power of love even when you are alone. There is no need to wait or to beg or to compromise yourself in order to attain a certain feeling. All you must do is choose to feel the way you wish to feel. Go ahead and feel what you truly want to feel. And the power of authentic purpose will move your whole world forward. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Do more --- Go beyond what you must do, and do more. That's where you will start to encounter life's richness. Don't settle for just getting by. For you have so very much more to give, and to live. When you've reached the finish line, that's no time to stop. Take a victory lap or two, and delight in the pure, sweet enjoyment of all the good things you can do. Then set your sights on another, more valuable and ambitious goal. Reach beyond what's comfortable and necessary, into the realm of the best that is possible. Just a small extra effort can produce significantly greater results, taking them from ordinary to extraordinary. Leverage your efforts by going above and beyond. When the work is done, take advantage of the opportunity to do more. And quickly put yourself far out in front. -- Ralph Marston

2009-07-27 15:39:16

Janet said:

Give yourself a goal ---- Do yourself a favor and give yourself a goal. Make it meaningful, make it exciting, make it challenging and then make it happen. Set your goal a little bit beyond what you already know you can do. Then when you reach it you'll not only have the achievement, you'll also have an increased level of confidence. As long as you're making the effort to live this day, give it a purpose. Give yourself a goal, and transform fleeting time into lasting accomplishment. From where you are, you can go anywhere. One by one, the goals you set will get you there. Working steadily and persistently toward a goal will energize all aspects of your life and bring the awesome power of focus to your efforts. There's truly no feeling quite like it. Challenge yourself forward with a great and meaningful goal. Give yourself a goal, and make yourself some real treasure. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Make your own way ---- Others can point the way, but you must make the journey. Others can give you their assistance and advice, but you must choose the direction of your life. If you set out to live someone else's dream, you'll end up frustrated and disappointed. For you have your own special purpose, a purpose that would be deeply painful to deny. That purpose is eager to face the greatest challenges and to grow intensely more meaningful in the process. Your purpose has a whole wonderful set of achievements that will bring great fulfillment to your life. No one, no matter how generous or well-intentioned, can give you everything you seek. For much of what you seek is to make your own way in life. No pleasure can compare to the pleasures you earn through your own efforts. No reward can equal the reward of creating your own achievements. Make the commitment, make the effort, and make your own beautiful way in life. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Create opportunity ---- Opportunity is greatest when it seems to be gone. In times of difficulty, there is much room for achievement. This is a time to create great value. This is a moment ripe with new opportunities for moving ahead. Just when you feel you have no more to give, that's when you can rise to a whole new level of effectiveness. When previously reliable actions bring disappointing results, outstanding new possibilities are already taking shape. When all hope is gone, new hope asserts itself more strongly than ever. Along with every obstacle comes the energy to transcend that obstacle. Your very nature is to create new value. Out of difficulty and challenge, you can create achievement and prosperity. When there appears to be no opportunity, that in itself is a great opportunity. It's a great opportunity for you to create an opportunity of your own. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

Options --- Sometimes, the best approach is the willingness to make another approach. Give yourself some options. Don't become so focused on the process that you fail to reach the goal. If what you're doing is not working, have the honesty and confidence to re-evaluate and adjust your approach. A ship sailing across the sea is constantly getting pushed off course by the winds and the currents. To successfully reach the desired destination, the captain must continually adjust the ship's direction. You cannot know in advance all the circumstances you'll encounter. Plan carefully, and then be ready to adjust your tactics as you move forward. Remind yourself often exactly where you've decided to go. Commit to doing whatever it takes, and to adjust your efforts so they continue to align with your goal. Be effectively persistent by being flexible and always mindful of what you've chosen to achieve. Though the path is not straight, you'll surely find a way to get there. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

The time is right ---- The time is right, right now. Stop waiting and start doing. When you have the thought to make a difference, act on it. Live out your dreams by putting your ideas quickly into action. When you are truly and fully committed to a specific outcome, it will happen. Taking action is what authenticates and locks in your commitment. Once you begin to take action, you've made an investment. The more of your time and energy and focus you invest, the more you'll be motivated to see it through no matter what. Momentum is essential to any achievement. Taking action is your way to create that momentum. As soon as you decide to do it, begin to do it. Take the first step now, and you're well on your way to whatever destination you choose. -- Ralph Marston

Beyond what is comfortable Progress is made by doing what you have not done before. To truly grow stronger, you must step beyond what is comfortable and familiar. Just outside your door is a whole wonderful world of new possibilities. And with those new possibilities come new and difficult challenges. Go ahead, and have the courage to open that door and to step outside your comfort zone. For though the challenges are many, the rewards are more valuable than you can imagine. You are designed and equipped and intended for great things. You are flexible and adaptable and creative and intelligent enough to successfully handle whatever you encounter. Beyond the comfort of what you already know, you'll find the wonder and magnificence of all you can become. Go explore and fulfill the very best possibilities. -- Ralph Marston

Janet said:

In good time ------ Give yourself the time necessary to succeed. Patience and persistent effort will make any possibility come to life. Value is created over time. With focused action, the goals you seek will surely come in good time. Your efforts will not fail to bring results. And the most powerful results are the ones that come over time. Plant the seeds of success. And even before those first seeds begin to sprout, keep planting even more seeds. In good time, those tiny seeds, diligently and persistently planted, will yield a bountiful harvest of achievement. In good time, every effort will be rewarded. Find joy in every moment of the journey, knowing that you are indeed making a difference. In good time, you'll savor the sweet fruits of all those efforts. -- Ralph Marston

Transform ---- Step back from the pain and transform it into compassion. Step back from the stress and strengthen your purpose. Take the anger and turn it into healing. Drop the resentment and allow the remaining energy to blossom into enthusiasm. Rise above anxiety, so that you come to experience peace. From the negative frustrations, draw positive inspiration. Where there is sadness, offer genuine and unconditional love. In times of despair, find tiny morsels of joy and hope, and let them grow to magnificent proportions as they flow out from you. When you are weary, be truly thankful for how far you have already come. Let your gratitude transform what is, into the very best of what you know can be. Life's energy is what you make it. Make it purposeful, positive, fulfilling, and great. -- Ralph Marston

Energy boost ---- If you wanted to raise your level of energy, what would you think about? What would you say, how would you act, how would you carry yourself, and what things would you focus upon? Imagine being filled with so much positive energy that it overflows into the world around you. Think about exactly how that would make you feel. Would you like to boost your energy level right now? You have everything necessary to do exactly that. For in any and every moment, your energy level depends on the choices you make. The way you think and act and speak and feel all contribute to the amount of energy you have to work with. A beautiful, genuine smile, for example, puts you at a much higher energy level than an angry scowl. Focusing on your highest vision gives you greater energy than filling your mind with worry, judgment and envy. Your energy level is up to you, and you can always utilize that energy to do great things. Give yourself a positive energy boost now, and again and again, and delight in the rewards of a life well lived. -- Ralph Marston

Never settle for less ---- You can create results or you can make excuses. It's much more fun and fulfilling to create the results you have chosen to create. The opportunities are always there. Your job is to seize them and work them into real, meaningful achievements. Always, there are challenges. And always, there are ways to successfully move through those challenges. Whatever you can envision, you can achieve. Sure, there are plenty of excuses for not doing so, and yet there are also plenty of ways to make it happen. The purpose of your magnificent life is not to merely endure. There are wonderful, unique treasures that only you can create. Fulfillment of your authentic purpose is worth every effort. Never settle for less from yourself than the absolute best you can be. -- Ralph Marston

Difficult and easy ---- Can you define easy? What makes one task easy and another task difficult? What one person considers difficult another person finds to be easy. In fact, difficult and easy are largely what you define them to be. Do you see certain accomplishments as out of reach because you assume that they're too difficult? Perhaps it's worth looking again, knowing that you have the power to decide what is difficult and what is easy. When you take it easy, then you have the power to make it easy. When you make it easy, then you can get it done. Though the job may be complicated and challenging and demanding, you can choose to make it easy by the way you think of it. Instead of avoiding what you assume to be difficult, you can dive right in to what you decide is easy. Choose with your own thoughts to make it easy. And you'll choose to make it happen. -- Ralph Marston

In your favor When the doubts come, see them, feel them, laugh at them and let them go. You can do it and you know it. Just a little positive action will get your confidence starting to roll. Go ahead and take that first small step. A successful attitude is as close as your next thought. Imagine in detail what success means to you right now, and just as suddenly, you are on your way. Smile at each challenge, because you see its value. Know that every setback makes the achievement more solidly yours. Circumstances work in your favor when you think and work in your favor. Events unfold to support and fulfill your most sincere and intense expectations. Whatever happens is another step in the right direction. For you will find a way to make it so. -- Ralph Marston

The reason why --- You know what you must do. And yet how do you get yourself to do it? Again and again, remind yourself why. With a strong enough reason why, you will be able to do anything at any time in any circumstance. If you're tempted to put off a task until later, remind yourself why you truly want to get it done. Put a powerful why behind it, and you'll find a way to do it now. Real achievement demands many consistent, focused efforts spread over long periods of time. The way to keep it up is to keep it meaningful. Give your long-term intentions the opportunity to dispel the short-term, momentary urges. With a clear, solid purpose firmly in mind, you'll stay reliably on track. Whatever you choose to imagine can happen for you. Constantly give your goals a sincere reason why, and you'll bring them steadily to life. -- Ralph Marston

Driving desire ---- What is the most important thing you must contribute to your own success? It is the persistent and prevailing desire to make that success happen. The things you don't know can be learned. The resources necessary can be found and acquired. Yet if there is no driving desire, then the knowledge and the resources will be of no use. Real, unique, meaningful desire is what will make success happen and is what will make it worthwhile. Complex systems, vast networks and powerful machines can accomplish much. Yet they cannot figure out what to accomplish. That is your special area of expertise. You are able to feel the tug of desire and then find ways to express and fulfill those desires. Listen intently to your authentic desires, and dive into the heart of them. Find the value that you can give to all of life, and make it happen. -- Ralph Marston

Immediate action ---- When you decide to do it, begin to do it. Give substance to your commitment by acting on it right away. Intention is powerful, and yet there's something your intention must have in order to survive. That something is real, solid action. Make your choice, and then immediately give power to it by taking the first step toward it. There is always something you can do right away. When you act, you seal the commitment. When you act, you create momentum. The way to make sure you stay in motion is to get yourself in motion right away. When the reason for your decision is still fresh in your mind, give power to that decision by acting on it. Accomplishment occurs when you go beyond merely thinking about it. Get up, get going, get moving and you will indeed get it done. -- Ralph Marston

Know you can ---- It's great to believe you can accomplish some particular thing. It is far more powerful, however, to know you can. When you merely believe, there is still room for doubt. When you know, there is no doubt at all. How do you go from belief to knowing? You must put that belief into action. Go ahead and take the first small step in the direction of your goal. Feel how it feels and know what it's like to actually accomplish what you have chosen to accomplish. With thinking and planning and strategizing, you believe. With experience, you know. Get yourself some real live experience in moving toward your goal. Once you know you can, you will. -- Ralph Marston

Point the way ---- Dream big dreams, and set magnificent goals that take your breath away. When the going gets rough, the small, relatively meaningless goals are too easy to abandon. The big, authentic dreams, on the other hand, will compel you to move forward. They give you solid reasons to work persistently through whatever challenges may come. You can choose which dreams to follow. So make those dreams big enough to overpower any difficulty. Make them dreams that faithfully express who you truly are. Make them dreams that resonate perfectly with your highest vision of the best that life can be. When you get knocked down by disappointment, it's important to have a dream that will compel you to get right back up. When obstacles block your path, be sure that you're carrying a dream that will show you the view from a higher perspective. Move constantly toward the best you can imagine. Hold on to those dreams that point the way there. -- Ralph Marston

Give it time It's great to have a sense of urgency. It's not so great to rush through your work so quickly that you do a poor job of it. Certainly you would like to get it done as soon as possible. Just as important, often even more so, is to get it done right. Always keep in mind that speed is not the only thing that matters. Pay just as much attention to quality, accuracy and effectiveness. What you do makes a lasting difference in your world. Give it the time and attention it deserves. Make good use of your time. Fill it with focused, meaningful, careful and attentive effort. Steadily work at a sustainable pace. And thoroughly enjoy the success that you are creating in each moment. -- Ralph Marston

Find your why ---- You can do what you think you cannot do. First you must change your thinking. Most perceived limitations have some basis in fact. Yet every limitation that holds you back is supported in large measure by your assumption that it is a limitation. By changing your assumptions, you can change the whole landscape of your possibilities. What once were limitations no longer are limitations. Look at life from the perspective of purpose. Realize that there is a way to successfully express whatever authentic purpose is within you. If you focus merely on how to get it done, you'll find that many of the paths are blocked. Focus instead on why you must, and you'll open yourself to a new set of workable, accessible and achievable strategies. What do you think you cannot do? Find your why, and you'll see the way. -- Ralph Marston

Preparation boosts your confidence. Good, solid, thoughtful preparation makes your efforts more effective. Be well prepared, and your time will be spent moving forward instead of struggling to catch up. Be prepared, and you can effectively deal with small issues before they become big obstacles. Imagine the possibilities and then prepare yourself for them. That puts you in position to make the best of whatever may happen. Good preparation magnifies the positive influence of your efforts. Your efforts are more effective when they're driven by positive expectations. Your expectations exert the most powerful influence when they're backed up by consistent action. Expectations without actions amount to little more than empty wishes. Actions without specific, positive expectations will fail to achieve the desired result. Expect the best of yourself and others. Then do what it takes to actually achieve the best. Let your expectations be the driving, directing force behind your actions. And those small things can quickly add up to a big influence. Your attitude and your outlook on life truly matter. They have a powerful influence over what kind of difference you are making, in the big decisions and the small ones too. See the world as a beautiful place, filled with positive possibilities. And your actions, your thoughts, your consequences will take on the color of that positive perspective. Everything, every moment, every person, every stirring in your heart matters. Owning failure ---- When you fail to get the desired results, what's the first thing you must do? Take credit for it. If you don't take credit, you don't learn the extremely valuable lesson for which you've just paid dearly. If you don't take credit and own your failures, you'll continue to experience more of them. Instead, go ahead and take complete credit and ownership of your failures. Because when you take full ownership of your failures, you fully empower yourself to successfully get beyond them. What you own, you control. When you choose to own your results, then you put yourself in control of those results. When you own your results, you can decide what those results will be. And they can be whatever you wish to make them. Admit your failures, take credit for them, embrace them, and own them. When you willingly take responsibility and ownership even for the failures, you're positioned for magnificent success. -- Ralph Marston

You will not ever get anything done if you keep scheduling it for someday. What you do with now is what truly makes a difference in your life. Remember now, and again and again, that this is where your consequences are determined. This is when you put real life and substance into your dreams. What may appear to be an unyielding obstacle when you're standing still, will begin to give way when you start moving forward. Focus not on what is pushing against you, but focus instead on the purpose that is pushing you to get it done. Remind yourself again and again of why you must. Hold your head high and keep your eyes on the goal. Conditions will change, and so can you. Some routes will be blocked, and you have the flexibility to discover alternate ways to get it done. Taking action will give you the most realistic perspective. If you're not sure which way to go, pick one way and find out what happens. You'll know soon enough, and will be able to adjust your strategy accordingly. Don't waste time agonizing over what might or might not work. Reasons behind the reasons ----- Look for the reasons behind the reasons. There is some reason for everything you have chosen to do or to be. The more clearly you know who you are, the more elevated your perspective becomes. Develop a solid understanding of your very own fundamental reasons why, and you'll find multiple opportunities for moving forward. When you're in touch with your purpose, you'll find that many of the external things you see as necessities are not really necessities at all. The less you need, the more abundant and fulfilling your life will be. Know why you do what you do, and you'll understand how to do it more effectively. What it takes Just because you seem to be at a disadvantage is no reason to give up. Instead, resolve to push forward with consistent, focused effort. Those who achieve are not necessarily the smartest, or the wealthiest, or the best connected. Those who achieve are those who are the most persistent. Your level of commitment over the long term is a much bigger factor than any relative advantages or disadvantages that may exist when you first start. Choose where you would like to go, and keep making the effort until you get there. Be willing to do what it takes, and you can achieve whatever you wish. Instead of worrying about where you are when you begin, put your energy into making steady progress. If you can take one step and then another, you'll get where you choose to go. Successful habits ----- Whatever you do again and again turns into a habit. And your habits have a profound effect on the quality of your life. Look honestly at what you do each day. What things are moving you forward, and what things are you doing that keep holding you back? Your actions are yours to control. And your habits are yours to develop or abandon. Though habits rarely come or go overnight, you can indeed choose and control them. Add an empowering habit, or get rid of a destructive one, to dramatically improve your life. Even a small positive habit will make a big difference. Because each time you do it, you steadily add more power to it. Think of what you can do, beginning right now, to add a habit of success to your life. And watch as that small success, done again and again, turns into plenty of big achievements. -- Ralph Marston

Always moving ---- By its very nature, life is dynamic. That makes it impossible to truly stand still. If you're not moving forward, you're falling behind. So every day, in some way or another, take action to move your life forward. Just a small improvement, just a subtle positive step, is infinitely preferable to doing nothing. Always, there is some little something you can do to better your life and your world. What can you do right now to solve a problem that's been frustrating you? What step can you take in the next few minutes that will bring you closer to the accomplishment of an important goal? There is something you can do, and those small efforts quickly add up as time goes on. So instead of complaining that you can't get it all accomplished at once, do a little bit, and then do it again. Always, your life is filled with energy, and is moving in one direction or another. Changing conditions ----- Accept, adjust, act and evaluate. It's a great strategy for successfully handling changing conditions. When something that previously worked no longer works, accept the fact that things have changed. Embrace the new reality of what is, so you'll have the power to work with it. Adjust your approach based on what you see. No matter what has happened to change things, there is always value to be found and always a way to utilize that value. Go ahead and take action. Your new approach may or may not work, and the way to know for sure is to move forward with it. Evaluate the results you get. Learn from what went wrong and from what went right. The world is constantly changing, and new possibilities are being born every moment. Accept what has changed, adjust to it, take action, learn, and keep going until you get the results you seek. -- Ralph Marston

Momentum of effort ----- When are you most likely to make the effort to get things done? It's when you're already taking action. If you get the day started by doing a lot of nothing, the whole day is likely to go that way. Yet when you begin the day with a positive action, even if it's just a little one, you set the powerful momentum of effort in motion. Once you're moving and working and creating and achieving, you'll tend to keep it up. That's why it is so important to get started early in the day. What happens when you've just experienced how good it feels to get something done? You become eager to do more, so you can create that great feeling again. There is some little something you can do right now that will give you a taste of accomplishment. Do it, feel the good feeling, and notice how motivated you become to do even more. There's always a quick way to create the momentum of effort in your life. Get yourself going with positive action, and put that momentum of effort and achievement to work for you. -- Ralph Marston

Committed to make it work ----- Do you hesitate to take action because you're not sure if you'll be effective? Remember that achievement is built on efforts that work as well as efforts that don't work. Some of your individual efforts may not bring the desired results. Yet when you are committed to keep doing whatever is necessary, you are sure to find a way. The important thing is to focus on the goal, and put your energy into doing your best to reach that goal. Accept that you may not get the result you desire, then step forward anyway, and do everything within your power to achieve that result. At the very least, you'll gain valuable experience. And with enough experience, you'll eventually be able to get it right. It's true that there are no guarantees. After all, if it were a sure thing, someone else, far less capable than you, would have already claimed the prize. Go ahead and make the effort. It will work when you're committed to make it work. -- Ralph Marston

Skip the need and go straight to the achievement. Dive into the effort, and keep making the effort until your objective is reached. Instead of constantly thinking that you need something, experience yourself achieving it. Instead of dwelling in excuses and lamentations, celebrate positive and valuable results. There is nothing that you need to need. That's because you are fully capable of setting goals and of finding effective ways to reach them. Now, you have the opportunity to keep going. Now, you can build upon the positive momentum that you've worked so hard to establish. You are well experienced at getting things done. Imagine what you can now do with that valuable experience. Though the challenges may be great, you've proved that you have the strength and ability to move successfully through them all. And as you have already experienced, there are great rewards on the other side of those challenges. You've done much to get where you are. Think your way forward ---- A problem is a problem for you when you think it is. An opportunity is an opportunity for you when you see it as such. Are you going to let yourself be tossed around by events beyond your control? Or, will you choose to find and to fulfill the value that is imbedded in every situation? Where you end up going is a direct result of where you think you will go. It's easy to think that there's no hope, and yet it is just as easy to see the positive possibilities. What's the difference between letting your worst fears play out and allowing your most treasured dreams to be realized? At the most basic level, the difference is the way you choose to think of your life in each and every moment. Every thought comes, without effort or hesitation, the moment you choose to think it into existence. The positive thoughts cost no more than the negative ones, yet they open the way for infinitely greater value in your life. You can think that the world is against you, and you'll be right. Or, you can think your way positively forward, and live the magnificent reality of your highest vision. -- Ralph Marston

How will it affect you? -------- How will this affect you, and how will that affect you? That is completely for you to decide. What happens outside of you has an influence. Yet it is what happens within you that has the final say. You can choose to be brought down by the worst aspects of the situation. Or you can choose to be lifted up by the best positive qualities of that very same situation. What do you think about the possibilities of this day? How do you feel about the circumstances you're in? What you think, the way you feel, the things you believe combine to create the filter through which you experience life. What passes through that filter is exactly what you allow to pass through. You cannot change what already is, yet you can decide precisely what you will take from it and what you will do with it. No matter what happens, you have the power to make of it what you will. -- Ralph Marston

Break the pattern ----- Fighting against a sense of despair will only make it worse. Instead of letting despair feed on itself, do something positive and proactive to break the pattern. When you become angry about being angry, that will only make your anger more destructive. The more intensely you feel your frustration, the more frustrated you will become. The way out is to quickly and decisively break the pattern. Realize that the negative momentum is building and do something so completely unrelated that you knock it off track. Don't make your negativity stronger by fighting against it. Instead, make it irrelevant and powerless by turning your attention and putting your energy in a radically different direction. Be outrageously and unreasonably positive. Be funny and creative and ridiculous and joyful all at the same time. Smile, laugh and be enthusiastic about life even when you have no reason to be. By breaking the negative pattern, you'll create many great reasons to smile. -- Ralph Marston

Consistent effort ---- If you make more progress than you thought you would, don't compensate by slowing down. You're doing great, so raise your expectations even higher and keep going strong. If you fail to make as much progress as you had planned, don't get discouraged. Remind yourself of why you're making the effort, and re-commit to getting it done. Consistent, purposeful effort will reliably bring the results you seek. On some days you'll move faster than on other days, yet every day you'll keep going forward. Never forget that there is great power in small actions that are repeated again and again. Though the path may be long and winding and uneven, by continuing to put one foot in front of the other, you'll reach your destination. Celebrate the small victories and learn from the small defeats. Then, keep on moving steadily toward the goal you've chosen. Put the power of consistent effort to work. And each day, you'll bring new value to life. -- Ralph Marston

Treasure the experience ---- Let go of the need to constantly keep score. Create value for its own sake and it will come much more easily and naturally. There are great possibilities patiently waiting to happen for you. Yet any desire for superiority you may have will keep pushing those possibilities away. All you could ever hope for is already connected to you. But you cannot see that connection when you're constantly focused on getting more. Your obsessive attachment to getting the result you seek prevents that result from being fully realized. Put your focus on being instead of getting. Good things happen as soon as you get past the need for them. Let life flow as it will, and it will flow in great abundance. Get out of the way of your own authentic fulfillment. To be effective ----- What is it that makes some people more effective than others? Is it skill, or luck, or secret knowledge? More than anything else, it is a clear and consistent sense of purpose. When the objective is compelling enough, you will find a workable, effective way to make it happen. To be effective, you must be effective toward some particular end. Clearly define, visualize and feel the reality of the goal, mentally weaving it into every part of your life. Focus on why it must be done just as much as you focus on what is to be done. By very definition, an inspired performance requires inspiration. Purpose provides that inspiration. Actions that clearly resonate with purpose will naturally gravitate toward higher and higher levels of effectiveness. When it truly means something to you, you'll do it very well. Make sure your daily tasks are aligned with the goals you've set for yourself. Keep the objective in sight. When you can clearly see where you are going, you'll naturally keep working your way there. You have the power to achieve what you choose to achieve. Focus each moment and each action on your dream, and the dream will surely and steadily become real. -- Ralph Marston

Why you desire ---- What would you desire if everything you now desire were already yours? If you possessed every object you could ever imagine possessing, what would drive you forward? If all your goals were reached and even exceeded, what would get you going each morning? If every problem in your life were solved, where would you direct your energy? Certainly it is necessary to pay attention to all the outer concerns. But if that's all you ever think about, you can become hopelessly frustrated and disillusioned. Every now and then, dig deeper. Remind yourself why you desire what you desire. Following your outer desires can help you to express your purpose, yet those desires are not your purpose itself. And so even if you fail to achieve a particular goal, the pure, authentic purpose behind the goal is still intact. Instead of being frustrated when you experience disappointments in your outer world, you can choose to be inspired and creative. For you still have your purpose, and you have the opportunity for finding an exciting new way to express it. -- Ralph Marston

Limiting beliefs ----- Have you become addicted to limiting beliefs? Do those limiting beliefs soothe you and comfort you while at the same time holding you back? In the short term, it can be much easier to tell yourself you can't do it. Yet when you look at the big picture, it's much better to go ahead and do the work of achievement. You can comfort yourself today by believing that your lack of progress is not your responsibility. However, you'll soon be paying for that short-term comfort with long-term regret. It is difficult work to acknowledge and follow the best of your possibilities. And it is well worth the effort. For your dreams are calling to you, and they'll never be satisfied until you do something about them. You have what it takes to reach them, and they know it. Break free of your dependence on limiting beliefs. And achieve the great things that only you can bring to life. -- Ralph Marston
